UGC buying guide

UGC usage rights: what brands should clarify before hiring.

The price of creating a video and the right to use that video commercially are not always the same thing.

Usage rights are separate from production

Paying for a UGC video does not automatically mean every commercial use is included. Organic posting, paid advertising, whitelisting, raw footage, editing rights, and long-term usage may be priced separately.

Questions to clarify before ordering

Can the brand post the video organically?
Can it be used in paid social ads?
How long do paid usage rights last?
Which platforms are included?
Is raw footage included?
Can the brand edit the footage?
Is creator-handle whitelisting included?
Can it be used on a website or landing page?

Put the terms in writing

Before ordering, write down channels, duration, regions, editing permissions, and whether the content will be used in paid advertising.
